Overview

Paragliding is the calmest way to see Rishikesh from above. You take off from a ridge with a certified tandem pilot, ride the thermals over the river valley and land on an open field — no training, no jumping, nothing to operate yourself.

It suits almost everyone: first-timers, families and travellers who want the view without the adrenaline of a free fall. The pilot handles the wing throughout, so your only job is to enjoy the flight.

What the flight feels like

Take-off is the only part that asks anything of you: a few running steps down the slope while the wing lifts behind you. Within seconds your feet stop finding the ground and the harness takes your weight.

After that it goes quiet. There is no engine and very little wind noise — just the valley turning slowly below you while the pilot works the thermals to hold height. Most people stop gripping the harness within the first minute.

The landing is gentle and on an open field, with the pilot bringing you down to a walking pace. You are back on your feet without any impact.

Safety

You fly tandem, which means a trained pilot is in control from take-off to landing. Before the flight you get a short briefing and the team checks every piece of gear.

  • Certified tandem pilots on every flight
  • Regularly inspected wings and harnesses
  • Helmet and safety gear provided
  • Pre-flight briefing on take-off and landing
  • Reserve parachute carried on every flight
  • Wind and weather checked before each session
  • Flights called off when conditions are not right

Paragliding depends entirely on the weather. If the wind is not safe on your day, we reschedule — nobody flies in marginal conditions.

Strawbell Paragliding FAQs

The questions we get asked on the phone every day.

Airtime is usually 15 to 20 minutes. The full activity takes longer once you add the drive to the take-off point, the briefing and the ride back.

A tandem flight starts at ₹1,800 per person, and ₹2,500 with video. Call us on +91 90275 66266 to confirm — rates move with the season.

None. Every flight is tandem, so a certified pilot controls the wing from take-off to landing. You get a short briefing and then you are simply along for the view.

Yes to both — the wing is chosen according to combined weight, so the operator sets a minimum and maximum. Tell us the age and approximate weight of everyone flying when you book and we will confirm before you travel.

It is an adventure activity and carries inherent risks. Strawbell works with certified pilots, inspected equipment and a reserve parachute on every flight, and conditions are checked before each session. Flights are called off rather than flown in marginal weather.

March to June and September to November are the reliable windows. The monsoon months are usually not flyable.

We reschedule. Wind decides everything in this activity, so we confirm the window a day before and move your slot if it does not hold.

Most people do not — the flight is smooth and there is no engine or vibration. Tell your pilot if you are prone to motion sickness and they will keep the turns gentle.

Yes, and we recommend it. Weekend and holiday slots fill early, and booking ahead lets us plan around the weather instead of around availability.
